Have you ever gotten frustrated trying to explain something to someone and wished they could just see your screen?

Before that frustration happens again, you may want to take a look at "JoinMe: Instant screen sharing. Instant Aha!".

Getting Started

Getting started with is so easy even a caveman could do it. Since registration isn't required, all you do is go to their website and click on the orange arrow to share.

JoinMe

It will download an .exe that you click on to launch the service. Your screen will go dark for just a bit and voila! You are ready to share your screen.

That's it?

Well, you do have to copy your "room" URL to share with someone and somehow get that link to them but otherwise, yeah, that's it!

Features

Sometimes the free stuff is so watered down that it's not worth the effort to actually use it. Not with JoinMe.

JoinMe Features

After trying their service, we signed up for the free trial of the Pro version (which requires registration) because we wanted to see if it really worked like they say it does.

How We Are Using It

JoinMe is powered by the folks at LogMeIn, another service we totally love and highly recommend, so we knew it would be awesome right off the bat.

We just didn't realize how many ways we could think of using it.

We're sure there are a lot more ways JoinMe can help make life easier but these are the biggies for us:

  • Homeschool

  • Home Office

  • Training and Support

It's so much easier now to show someone how to use software, troubleshoot their computer system, brainstorm a project and even teach a class!

The Downside

Nothing is ever perfect right? In this case, we only have two somewhat minor complaints:

  1. You can't limit what part of your screen you share.
Make sure that you don't have anything loaded that you don't want to share because you'll be sharing your entire desktop. Literally everything you see on your screen, the other person will see too.

  2. You can't record the session.
This isn't as much of a big deal to us because we can use our screen-to-video capture software.

Conclusion

Sometimes life would just be a whole lot easier if you could just show someone what you were doing. Or have them show you what they are doing. Now you can. Quickly, easily, reliably and even free!

Have fun, stay safe and God bless,

Okay so technically this is not my personal video. This is actually one CJ and I made for his website.

Yeah, see, what happened is that I have a ton of footage (with an insane amount of bloopers) and am testing a few different video editors.

In other words, my video isn't ready yet.

Sorry about the sound. It's a combo of machinery, room echo and a glitch in the audio input system.

As always, stay tuned for bloopers and stuff!

Have fun, stay safe and God bless,
Penny

If stuff looks a little weird for a bit, it's because I'm combining posts from Blogger, Tumblr and a couple of other WordPress blogs.

WordPress multisite has officially won me over. =)

Have fun, stay safe and God bless,

Forget "Girl, Interrupted", I'm starring in "Remodel, Interrupted"! LOL

If you've followed me for a bit, you know I have been working on my Mom's house.

The job entails the placement of new insulation, walls, ceiling, restoring the awesome wooden floor and a few other details. Oh yeah, the outside needs to be redone too.

Sooo ... here's what happened today (pics courtesy of my son's DS):

No, it wasn't while I was reliving my glory days as a contractor 10+ years ago. Contrary to what my camo pants may have you believer, it wasn't even while my son and I were out adventuring in the woods.

It happened when I went to rescue my Mom. (She'd locked herself out of her car 30+ miles away from home.)

Sure, I've been complaining about wanting time to just sit still and concentrate on my writing but this? This is so NOT what I had in mind.

We stuffed a new garbage bag with a spare pillow so the ice pack wouldn't ruin it. You can see my son's homeschool stuff strewn around me. It hurts to stand and write on the dry erase board I have for my son's homeschool lessons and I'm too short sitting down. Horrors! This was our best alternative.

Ironic, isn't it? I thank God I wasn't injured by tools, a utility knife or falling drywall or something. I have to admit though. I'm kinda embarrassed that I injured myself doing something simple. Walking to greet my Mom.

Have fun, stay safe and God bless,
Penny

CJ and the Webmom
We're always on the lookout for Awesome Kids to profile. Kids who are doing things no one imagined they would, inspiring other kids to go out and conquer their world.

One group of Awesome Kids are kids we like to call "Kidpreneurs". Kids who became successful entrepreneurs (or kids who want to be!).

Of course, when we ran across a list of "Top 10 Teenagers Who Made Their First Million Online", you know we just had to share!

Read this: Top 10 Teenagers Who Made Their First Million Online

While this article doesn't go into much depth on the teens they are spotlighting, it does give a nice general overview and links to their sites.

Things are changing. Pop culture, the seasons and now this blog!

Although I'm still involved with tech and the interwebz, my work has transitioned from do-it-for-you to teach-you-how. Instead of just deleting this blog though, I've turned it into an educational podcast hosted at PoweredByPenny.com.

This small museum has interesting display on different types of sand from around the nation, a netted catwalk, a bubble area and simulated beach. The full-body bubble was a bust though because it wouldn't go past CJ's knees before popping.

Among others, there are sections on patterns, music (including playable instruments), the sea, human body, visual distortions, and telephones.

OUR RATING: 4 out of 5 Stars

We would have given the Long Island Children's Museum a 3 star rating except for two things:

  1. The complete section devoted to teaching about handicapped life and how disabilities are more "differentabilities" than actual inability to live a "normal" life.

  2. The newsroom that actually allows children to put on a simulated newscast.

Teleprompters, "green screen" technology, and working microphones kept CJ engaged for almost an hour each time. However, his "best memory" is of the catwalk.

CJ on the LICM catwalk.

As you can tell by the picture, our visit was back in 2009. When CJ was younger. If you'd like to read more recent reviews, check out the LICM page on Trekaroo.

To get more info on admission pricing, hours of operation and directions, head on over to the Long Island Children's Museum's website.

We do recommend getting a membership. Not only did we get free admission for an entire year, we got reciprocal benefits at several science and children's museums nationwide.
