It's almost been a month since our the Webmom's Uncle gave CJ a red rooster, two red hens and one white hen (a rare color in that brood).
He also gave CJ nine freshly-laid chicken eggs to put into an incubator he was lending us.
We've been turning those eggs every morning and night, making sure the temperature stays at 100° and has just the right amount of humidity.
We tried to imagine what it would be like to be "parents" to all those little feathered rascals. Would we wind up like this momma hen we found online?
We tried to wait patiently but we've been so excited that we started imagining what our new little cheepers are going to look like.
Would they be red or yellow like our Uncle's chickens?
Or maybe we'd get another rare white one (or two) like Whitey?
Well, so far, we've had four yellow chicks hatch!
Sadly, we lost one but because of that, we started watching the eggs more closely and were able to help another one that went into distress.
We'll definitely post some pictures soon! =)
Have fun and stay safe,
