How many of us wish we could just "up and go"? Well, we can!

Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, CJ and I have the ability to go anywhere, anytime and at the drop of a hat. We can get our work done just fine. My Virtual Assistant stuff, CJ's K12 homeschool and his online Club stuff gets taken care of.

Those who know me, or at least know of me, have often marveled at the craziness of my vagabond life.

Eh, not really. They just place bets on how long I'll last in one spot before I get what RV'ers call the "itchy hitch". LOL

This week's Podcast is coming from our fabulous little studio in South Texas.

We discuss my (the Webmom) "rescue" problem, our procession of pets and how the apple might fall down but not away.

Our Project of the Week is a Christmas Cactus - sorta like a Christmas tree only, well, a cactus. Our Featured Site is BrainPop.

We've also got a Special Guest Appearance by Mr. Katz! =)

Whether you are new to the world of self-employment or have been in business for a while, a good network is always something to strive for. The Mom Pack is one of the best resources I've come across online.

As of this writing, there are officially 9,252 members on their interactive Yahoo group. One of which is speaking to you right now.

In addition to the main list, The Mom Pack maintains spin-off lists such as Chat, Goal Meeting/Motivational List, Homeschoolers and a few others.

Whether you are looking for honest feedback on your site layout, a barter, info on shopping carts or an understanding ear for your work/life balancing dilemma, I highly recommend The Mom Pack.

Wishing you much peace, happiness and success,
Pearl 'Penny' Lane, C.P.C.

Confession: I struggle with a paralyzing fear that something will happen to my son, I can't get to him and my child care arrangements will fall through. He has his own fear of being separated from me, his only parent.

Why We Think This Is So: My support systems have failed me. Several times and always when it really counted. Each time I wound up having to choose between CJ and my job. Having a doctor tell me I had to choose because I was getting sick was the absolute final straw.

In the end, I've realized it's just the two of us and - for the most part - we're okay with that. We homeschool. We travel together in search of "adventure" and that place we feel we can call home. We collaborate on a kid's website (CJsKidsClub.com) and plot the business plan for the Club itself. I do virtual assisting and update social media for others (blogs, Tweets, Facebook page updates, etc.).

Sometimes I'd love to go out with friends and just hang out. Sometimes I'd like some "me" time to just soak in the tub without worrying. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed that I cry. Yet, I never regret being his mom.

Perhaps the only thing I regret is not establishing myself before I became a mom. On the other hand, seeing my struggle will hopefully inspire him to be and do better for himself and his family.

For now, I will continue to get weird, sometimes condescending looks and remarks, from those who do not understand where I am coming from: a totally paralyzing fear that I'll miss something or not be there for him when he really needs me (again). A fear so intense that I get physically sick - literally unable to function - and that a combination of medication and therapy have not yet been able to conquer.

A "normal" job or my son. That's what it feels like and that's why my employment efforts may always be different from what others wish they would be.

CJ's struggle is more of the standard I-hate-school-and-am-more-accustomed-to-adults-than-children-unless-it-is-playtime variety. However, when added to mine, it makes a potent brew.

Thank God for the ability to homeschool. Thank God for the ability to use my office skills in an alternate setting. Most importantly, thank God for those who can empathize, or at least sympathize, with my struggle and do not pass judgement.

In conversation, blog posts and social media, you will often hear me say that I don't like the word "disability". I believe that no one is perfect and thus, we are all "differently-abled" to some degree.

Sometimes you can't see someone's disability. Maybe there's something hiding in their body, mind or spirit. I've heard many people make comments about how someone "doesn't look disabled" and I'm left wondering what that look should be.

What is the "look" of disability if none of us are perfect to begin with? Why do we say "oh poor dear" and feel sorry for someone that obviously doesn't feel sorry for themselves nor is embarrassed by their "difference"?

Who are we to judge someone's appearance and say that their life is less valuable or less of a life? We all have to do the best we can with what we are given.

Science is working to ensure that everyone can live a "normal" life. Prosthetics, surgeries, physical therapy, medication. Yet, society sometimes bashes people for not "looking disabled".

Perhaps we should remember that none of us can do or be everything perfectly and so we all learn alternate ways of doing and being. Of adapting.

Wishing you much peace, happiness and success,
Okay, so regardless of what you (or I) may think about her politics or her in general, a few things Sarah Palin said in those previews for her "Alaska" got me.

Yep, it feels kinda like a reality-style tv show/ad but at least it's somewhat enjoyable. [RV, Alaska, snow, family, adventure, woman with kick-butt/let's-do-it attitude .. cheesy entertainment .. right up my alley.]

"Don't retreat, just reload." ~ Sarah Palin

Heck yeah, sister! The funny thing is, she's an example of that. No matter what people are saying or what is going on, she's not giving up and slinking away.

I'm thinking, if she has the chutzpah to keep chuggin' along .. why the heck shouldn't I?

CJ and I have been moving around quite a bit. We call it "adventuring" but others call me crazy. LOL

We've driven from Mom's homestead in deep south Texas to New York and back again. Then it was on to Georgia and Iowa. The latter is where we are now.

Now, we have to drive back down to Mom's to take care of some legal issues.

It has been fun, that I won't deny, but at some point, everyone gets tired. Heck, just the thought of getting into my beloved Escape for another long trek makes my butt hurt!

This Teaching Tuesday, we'd like to remind every kid and every parent - homeschooled, public schooled, unschooled or hybrid schooled - that there is always something fun you can do outdoors.

Even though it's not summer anymore, we still think this video from Take Me Fishing has a great message.

Iowa is a bit different that we envisioned it being. Yes, there are rolling farmlands but there's also this amazing landscape just tempting you with adventure!
