"One cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war." ~ Albert Einstein

Although I have my own opinions on the war, today is not the day to spout them. Today is a day to recognize and pray for soldiers the world over. Whether they are ours (US), those of our allies or of our "enemies".

Every soldier has his or her own reason - selfless or selfish - for signing up but it cannot be denied that it can be one of the most brutal jobs one can have. Brutal mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Today, I ask for you to join me in prayer for all soldiers. Even those who are not "ours". Even if we eventually "win" the wars we are involved in, we will have lost many, many people. Maybe even some who would have been our greatest leaders.

"A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world." ~ John 16:21 (New King James Version)

Mother's Day is one of those holidays that has dual meaning for me. First, as a child and now, as a mother. It's little weird to be working on a secret project for my mom with my son while he's simultaneously working on a secret project for me with my mom.

At any rate, today is a day to pray and give thanks for our mothers. Even if you mother was not the greatest, spend a few seconds at least thinking one nice thing about her. After all, regardless of who she was or wasn't, she did give the world one of it's most glorious blessings: a child. You.

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.

Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.

Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.

Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.

Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.

But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.

~ Buddha

Although I'm not a practitioner of any specific "way", I do find golden nuggets of wisdom in many paths. This is one of my favorites.

"The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one often comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won't." ~ Henry Ward Beecher

Sometimes it takes both to succeed in life: the will to go on and the will to not go in certain directions. If they balance you out like yin and yang, you've got it made. If they disagree with one another, you'll go around in circles and never get anywhere. Like a dog chasing it's own tail, you'll never be able to move forward.

"Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead." ~ Charles Bukowski

Yeah, imagine walking around with all the anger, disappointment and negative emotion/reactions bottled up inside. I'd rather let it all out now and then and have people look at me a little sideways than tempt a heart attack rivaling Vesuvius proportions.

That's right, I choose small little eruptions over a major one that could potentially either wipe me or everyone around me out. LOL

"If you cannot get rid of the family skeleton, you may as well make it dance." ~ George Bernard Shaw

Oh yeah, I hear this one. It's my motto! =)

Own your past and turn it into something positive. Reach out to others who are going through something similar. You'll find healing for yourself and contribute to the healing of another. Very powerful stuff.

If you follow me on Twitter, you know my son and I have been working on an audio ad for his website this afternoon.

Lucky (or unlucky?) for me, CJ and I are very similar in temperament. We sorta got it on the 4th one, except for CJ being too close to the mic. We've decided to stick with that one and just edit it to lower the volume a bit.

Click on one of the tracks below to start listening. The tracks will cycle through on their own and repeat automatically. In other words, make sure you press pause when you're done listening otherwise you'll get the crazies from listening to us loop over and over and over ... LOL

Rats, the audio player needs to be replaced. Sorry!

In case you're wondering, CJ does have a slight speech impediment and has received speech therapy for it. I was told it will go away on it's own and to not stress about it so much. It's actually part of why I decided to give CJ his own website as a homeschool project.

Anyway, hope you giggled as much as we did. =)

Wishing you much peace, happiness and success,

"If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?" ~ Unknown

*giggling* I've got nothing but bad jokes just sitting on the tongue I'm currently biting. Anyone got a real answer for this?

"Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society." ~ Mark Twain

Ah, there are several not-so-PC jokes I could make here but I'm going to go take this at face-value, uh, as-is and say that this is another true one.

Compare the reactions you get when you walk in to a place with business formal attire and when you walk in off-day casual. (I've never walked into a place nekkid so I will not be addressing that.)

"Consider the postage stamp, my son. It secures success through its ability to stick to one thing till it gets there." ~ Josh Billings

This happens to be one of my biggest weaknesses. We quickly learn that we must multitask in order to keep or advance our place in the corporate world. Yet, that same mentality can wreck havoc in our personal lives.

Take a breath and focus on one thing at a time. Turn your phone's ringer off. Give your children 100% of your attention. You'll be surprised at the improvement in quality and reduction in edits and misunderstandings. You may even find that, by focusing your attention, you'll actually increase your time and money.

If you are worried about your productivity, I highly recommend the Pomodoro Technique. I use it and love it.

"By the time you're eighty years old you've learned everything. You only have to remember it." ~ George Burns

Sometimes it's the remembering that's the hardest part! Have you ever walked into a room and not remembered why? Or turned around on your office chair to reach something, gotten interrupted and then blanked? Grrr.

Now then, tell me why we figure things out just as we're on our last trimester of life? Imagine what we could do if we could figure ourselves out and know about life when we're younger! I'm 32 and going, Lord, I've gone through 1/3 of my life (if I'm lucky). I'm making a determined effort to empower my son and give him a head start on life by avoiding my mistakes.

Let me tell you, this requires brutal honesty and some definite embarrassment. LOL
