Just TartsFor Market Monday this week, we're focusing on the delicious smelling (but sometimes funny named) tarts from Just Tarts.

What is a tart?

A tart is a scented piece of wax that is about the size of a tea light but doesn't have a wick. Instead of burning them, you place them on a tart warmer.

The tarts from Just Tarts are completely handmade, cost just $0.60 each, arrive in 3-5 business days and come in 77 different scents like: Black Raspberry Vanilla, Frankincense and Myrrh, Monkey Farts and Peanut Butter Cookies.

Plus, you never pay over $6.00 in shipping no matter how many you order and they are definitely willing to fill custom orders. So if you've got a special scent in mind, send Jessica a message through her site.

If you are looking for an easy, affordable and still awesome gift, a tart might just be the answer!

For the last two weeks, our homeschool discussions have been about respect and rebellion. We’ve been looking at the stories of King David, King Solomon and the various people of the Old Testament.

It was really surprising to discover that we aren’t really that different from our “ancient” ancestors at all! Sure, our technology is something they probably didn’t even know they could wish for. The practice of medicine sure has improved too!

Yet, we are all still people. We work to provide for our families, we go to school, laugh, cry, and put our pants on one leg at a time. There are even times when it seems that we could have written King David’s Psalms ourselves! (If we’d have thought of them first.)

Many scientists say we must look to the past to see what our future holds because history repeats itself. Where does the past end though? Is it yesterday? Two hundred years ago? Two thousand or more?

Then comes the tricky part: which part of history should we rewrite and who should do the rewriting when, realistically, we won’t all agree?

After torturing our brains with all those questions, we realized something:

We all just need to be the best person we can be!

Like a pebble thrown into a lake, our actions will ripple out and change our world, one person at a time.

This Superstar Saturday, we're showcasing an awesome video from our friend, cattledogsandmutts. In case you weren't sure, that isn't her real name! =)

If you already have a dog or if you plan to adopt a puppy, you know that training is so important. Just like us, if dogs don't learn the rules, they can get themselves (and us!) into trouble.

Take a peek at our friend's training session with her Red Heeler puppy, Kallie. Then follow her on YouTube. She's always uploading some great stuff!

Kids, we don't recommend trying these but if you are going to test these anyway,
please, for the love of all that is good, get your parents' permission first!

Some interesting facts about your brain:

  • It's more active when you sleep.

  • It uses about 10 watts of power to function.

  • It needs 20 percent of the oxygen and calories your body requires.

  • It is 80% water.

No wonder doctors tell us we to eat right, drink a lot of water and get enough sleep! We know we feel better when we do but now we know our brain works better that way too!

We found these tidbits at The Nurse Nut.

If you have any weird but true facts you'd like to share, send them in!

With some major Holidays coming up, there's a good chance that you or someone you know will be traveling soon. So today, we're taking a look at how we can pack a bit better.

Please do not pack your dog.

These 'world famous Airline Guys' flew for the majors for many years. It's safe to say that they've learned about smart packing along the way!

For Market Monday this week, we're featuring one of our all-time favorite products: Slushie Express Cups!

These are technically for the Back to Basics Slushie Express but you can use any blender that will turn ice chunks or cubes into deliciously cold smoothness.

We use ours with the blender we already have, an affordable Hamilton Beach Wavestation Express blender with a cool pour spout built in to it.

The cups are basically reusable, plastic versions of the disposable Icee/Slushie cups you are already used to using. They have a removable, dome-shaped lid with a good-sized hole on the top and a straw with attached spoon.

Our Spiritual Sunday inspirational quote for today is ...

"No one is perfect – that’s why pencils have erasers." ~ Author Unknown

Sometimes we get stuck. Our homework seems too hard, our writing doesn't seem quite right, we don't know the perfect thing to say to that friend who lost their pet or we can't figure out how to keep our rooms clean and still get everything else done.

If we stop or give up because we are afraid to mess up, we'll never get anywhere! Take a deep breath, jump in and do your best. That's all any human can do.

For Superstar Saturday this week, we're sharing another great YouTube find. This video is Episode 1 from joegardenerTV's "The Twenty-Five Dollar Organic Victory Garden Challenge" series.

Joe is going to try to feed his family of four, all through summer, with a budget of just $25! Does he make it? Well, you'll just have to watch and find out!

Although these videos were posted over a year ago, they definitely still have some great tips and ideas we can use! If you thought pizza boxes were only good for holding pizza, watch this ...

What's that stuff
on your face?!
"I said STAY PUT!"
"That's better!"
"You're not fully clean, until you're Zestfully clean" Mr. Katz says you are!

Move away, he follows. Try to do anything other than sit there until he says "okay, you're good" and he'll reach up and grab you.

Yes, I have always had this kind of bond with my pets but this one is different.

Mr. Katz was born wild on my Mom's homestead in Texas. One day CJ decided he wanted one of the kittens and I gave him tips on how to "tame" them (I was so happy he was following in my footsteps! LOL).

Three days later, yup that's 3, CJ had Mr. Katz in the house and a couple of days after that, he drove with us from Texas to Georgia.

Three weeks later, no one would ever imagine this little guy had ever known anything but being a spoiled house kitty.

Wishing you much peace, happiness and success,

It's been a while since I last posted here, huh? I do have a good excuse. No, really.
My son and I moved to Georgia and have been setting up our new life. =)

Between the move, getting CJ enrolled in K12/Georgia Cyber Academy (a great homeschool/public school hybrid BTW) and figuring out where the grocery store is, etc. etc., we've been busy.

There's also been a shift in where our focus is but we'll save that for another post.

For now, I'd like to just say "Hi!", remind you that you are still in my thoughts and prayers and invite you to drop me a line if you are in the metro-Atlanta or surrounding areas. We can grab a cup of coffee somewhere. =)

Some interesting facts about our feline friends:
  • Just like our fingerprints, a cat's nose pad has a unique, ridged pattern.

  • Cats do not have shoulder blades.

  • Humans have 6 muscles to control their ears. A cat has around 30!

  • Calico cats are almost always female.

We love horses!Yesterday, we attended The Horse Rescue, Relief and Retirement Fund, Inc.'s (HRRRF) annual Hay Day and boy did we have a blast!

We went on a hay ride, visited with sheep, explored the horse barn, checked out the snoring pig (more on that later) and ate a couple of really delicious barbecue plates.

Of course, you know CJ also went horseback riding for a couple of hours!

The Hay Day celebration was a fundraiser.

The HRRRF is a non-profit and doesn't have any employees at all. Everyone that works there is a volunteer. However, they've got quite a few horses to take care of. They also take in whatever other critters they can, when and if they can.

When you tour the property, you see everything from horses to miniature donkeys, chickens to goats. We even saw a cat streak by the open barn door.

The people there are wonderful! They've all got big hearts and kind souls. They really do want to help the helpless, rescue the animal in distress, nurse them back to health and find them awesome forever homes.

The problem is that it takes money to do that. It takes money to feed the animals, get them the vet care they need and keep the lights on. Of course, they need other things too but you get where we're going with this.

The HRRRF could really use your help. Please visit their site, read some of the resident's stories and then volunteer (like we've signed up to do) and donate, if you can.

Some interesting facts about hair:
  • The average life span of a strand of hair is five and a half years.

  • Redheads have around 90,000 hairs while those with black hair have about 110,000.

  • Humans and chimps have about the same number of hair follicles. (Really?!)

  • Hair will fall out faster on a person that is on a crash diet.

Coca-Cola is sometimes used to ...

  • Make the floor sticky before Monster Truck shows and movie scenes where the actors might slip!

  • Get gum out of your hair. Soak the wad for a bit (like conditioner) and then just wash off!

  • Clean corrosion off of automotive battery terminals!

  • Make curly hair perfectly curly! Pour a can of flat Coke onto hair, leave it in for a few minutes and then wash it out like conditioner.
